The forecasting model generates scenarios that analysts refine rather than final numbers that go straight to the board. This is less revolutionary than vendors promised, but it's also more honest about what the technology can actually deliver.

The finance leaders who are getting value from AI are the ones who stopped believing the demos and started treating these systems like what they are—powerful but imperfect tools that require skilled operators. They're measuring success not by how many FTEs they eliminated, but by how much faster their teams can work and how much more analysis they can produce.

The AI lie wasn't that the technology doesn't work. It was that it works by itself.
